The London Initiative for Safe AI (LISA)’s mission is to improve the safety of advanced AI systems by supporting and empowering individual researchers and small organisations. To achieve this, our top priority is to provide a highly supportive, productive, and collaborative research environment. This balances our desire to grow a diverse community and movement of individuals and organisations while maintaining an office space with a cohesive, research-focused, and mission-aligned identity.

⁉️Membership Types
Member types
🗞️ Affiliate Member
- Signing up to our Affiliate membership will add you to our newsletter mailing list and keep you on top of LISA developments
- Affiliates will also receive notification of latest AI-safety events being held at LISA, where they can sign up, as well as advance notification of any programmes being run out of our space
- This membership type is intended to develop a network and community of those working on AI safety between those working in and outside LISA. We also hope that this will help motivate people transitioning from being simply interested about AI safety to working on AI safety full time (perhaps as a full LISA member or attending a programme run at LISA)
🧑🎓 Visiting Member
- Visiting membership is the base-level membership for individuals wanting to work at LISA’s research centre with access to the communal spaces, a Slack community invite, and ability to reserve coworking space
- This membership type:
- aims to further strengthen the network and community of AI-safety researchers working in and outside of LISA’s research centre by facilitating communication & collaboration
- is aimed at those wanting a temporary AI safety-focused workspace in London or those wishing to trial LISA as their primary working environment before applying for Resident membership
- allows for individuals whose primary working environment is elsewhere to occasionally work from the centre
- Visiting members cannot invite guests and are unable to make monthly, discounted reservations

- In future, Resident members will have priority booking access to the research centre’s coworking spaces. Make monthly bookings, reserve fixed-desks, and invite guests to the centre for up to 3 days a month (frequent guests should apply for Visiting membership). They will also be able to run approved events & workshops out of our research centre.
- Prior to applying for Resident membership, individuals must have spent a minimum of 4-weeks as an Visiting member or have been a participant of a seasonal programme ran from LISA’s research centre.
